Bodenham's skin grafting knife prototype, brass with a steel disposable blade by Gilette, by Bodenham, 1944.
This is the original prototype for Bodenham skin grafting knife from which all modern knives are derived; it was made by Bodenham himself. It was the first to feature a disposable blade.(1944) Bodenham prototype knife - 7 3/4" edge. This is the original grafting knife devised and made by Squadren-Leader D.C. Bodenham R.A.F.V.R. in 1944. It was the first such knife to incorporate a disposable blade and Gillette Inc. provided suitable strips of undivided razor blades which could be used in the instrument. All modern knives are derived from this original prototype.
