John Hopkins was admitted sizar in 1774; BA 1779; MA 1783; Elected fellow 1785-1806. Senior Greek lecturer; Hebrew lecturer; Senior Proctor 1801-2. Senior Tutor with Lane. Received the "Bourne pension" from the College of £200 per year for which he vacated his fellowship and had a right of institution to the vicarage at Bourne. [PBR II pp301] see also cc00091
Object History Note
In the collection of Sir Busick Harwood M.D., F.R.S. (1745(?) -1814). Possibly given by J.W.Clark, who gave seven similar pictures by Harding from Sir Busick Harwoods collection in the Fitzwilliam museum in 1903.
Dr Hopkins married the step daughter of Miss Pugh's great-great-grandfather the Rev James Bulwyn Pugh of Sible Hedingham
