Sir Frederick William Hewitt (1857-1916) born in London; studied at the Royal School of Mines admitted pensioner 1877; BA 1881; MB 1883; MD 1886 MA 1887. Anaesthetist to HM Edward VII and HM George V; physician anaesthetist at St George's Hospital; Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine; M.V.O. 1902; Knighted 1911; One of the Founders of the Christ's College Club. It is thought that the reason for this outstanding student choosing the speciality of anaesthetics was due to a sight defect which made being a physician difficult.
