The picture shows characters and scenery for the College production of Oedipus Tyrannus by Sophocles performed in November 1887. Oedipus as King of Thebes, representing civil authority, realises that his power is subservient to Apollo. The picture was drawn and etched by Robert Farren. It was presented to the College by Mrs Mary Walmsey in 1970. See also cc00334.
