William Perkins born 1558 at Marston Jabet Warwickshire . Pensioner 1577; BA 1580/81; MA 1584; Fellow 1584. In his early course he was a bad character up to some unknown date when the story goes he was converted from his ways by the comment upon him by some woman in the street, as " drunken Perkins yonder". Probably this was before his election to the Fellowship (Mich 1584). He showed Puritan tendencies throughout his life he was an unflinching Calvinist and pronounced the word "Dam" with wonder working emphasis. [PBR vol1 pp141]. His fame rests both on his writings and his preaching.
