Hoyton was a west country painter and engraver who studied under Malcolm Osborne and Stanley Anderson and was awarded the much prized "Prix de Rome" in 1926. His etchings are between 1924 and 1932, number about 60 of which about half feature Italian scenes; the rest are west country landscapes and some dozen portraits.
