Joseph Shaw was successively Scholar, Fellow, Sole Tutor and Senior Dean, he was sociable shooting, hunting clergyman who briefly became Master in early1849, but resigned the comparatively lonely position when foregoing (as was then required) the fellows' company on High Table became too high a price to pay.
