Commotion about Senate vote on allowing women to take University degrees April 1897. The vote was overwhelmingly against, leading to some disgraceful behaviour by the men stuffing an effigy of a lady cyclist through the gates of Newnham College.

The album of photographs acquired by Rudolph David Anstead was purchased for the College in 1998 by Samantha Fabbro (Cummins) who matriculated in 1983, BA 1986; MA 1990. Anstead was the son of Walter Henry Anstead: born in Wisbech, 2 June 1876. School Giggleswick. Admitted pensioner under Cartmell 21 March 1896. BA (Nat Sc tripos 2nd class) 1899. Analyst at chemical works in Hull 1899-1900; in Government Laboratory in Bridgetown, Barbadoes 1900-5; Agricultural Superintendent, Botanic Gardens, Grenada 1905-9; Scientific Officer for the United Planters Association of Southern India from 1909. lent to library April 2015 Elanor Wale.
