Knowlys, Newman (1758–1836), barrister and judge. Admitted pensioner 1776 aged 18. Called to the bar 1783. Afterwards a bencher. Recorder of London 1822-33; Steward of the Borough of Southwark till his death aged 76 in 1836. The most senior permanent judge of the Central Criminal Court has the title of Recorder of London.
