Richard Bernard matriculated as a sizar in 1592, MA 1598. Vicar of Worksop, silenced for Puritanism but restored. He wrote many books and articles 1607-1629. His pleading for an "unbegun work" of caring for prisoners in his book "Isle of Man" (1627) anticipates the work of John Howard. Rector of Batcomb in Somerset 1613 -14 (PBR pp 205).
