Arthur Foster Griffith was born in Brighton 4.101856; admitted pensioner in 1875 BA 1879; MA 1882; Admitted Lincoln's Inn 1881 called to the Bar 1884; solicitor 1889. Alderman of Brighton. He was the brother of Francis Llewellyn Griffith (1862-1934) a well known Egyptologist. He was the founder of the Amalgam clubs. He was a notable amateur geologist and antiquary; He bequeathed a collection of maps, pictures and antiquarian material to the college.
Related to Cambridge family of Foster (millers and bankers) a family that remained associated with the college: grandson, Adrian Griffith of Coton gave information 1956; daughter Miss Griffith bequeathed collection of pictures, maps and antiquarian material to the college 1979.
