Bronze bust; given to Dr Rouse by the family of James Havard Thomas, father of George Havard Thomas, on the occasion of Dr Rouse's retirement from the Headmastership of the Perse School, Cambridge in 1928. The gift was made in recognition of his kindness to a younger son, M.J.Havard Thomas, when a boy at the school from 1922 to 1928.

William Henry Denham Rouse born Calcutta 30th May 1863. Admitted pensioner 1882;BA 1885; MA 1889; Litt.D 1903; Fellow 1884-94. Head Master of Perse school Cambridge 1902 ; University teacher of Sanskrit since 1903.

Given to Dr Rouse by the family of James Havard Thomas, father of George Havard Thomas, on the occasion of Dr Rouse's retirement from the Headmastership of the Perse School, Cambridge in 1928. The gift was made in recogniotion of his kindness to a younger son, M.J.Havard Thomas, when a boy at the school from 1922 to 1928. The bust was executed expressly for this purpose, and was presented at the same time as another gift subscribed by the school. A plaster cast was made in 1951 for Rouse's cousin, Mr P.G.Rouse, who considered the bust quite a good likeness.
