The Revd. William Harness M.A. admitted Fellow commoner 1809. He was a friend of Byron while at Harrow and corresponded with him in later life. Both were lame through accident. He held numerous ecclesiastical jobs including incumbent of Regent Square Chapel 1826-44. Prebendary St Paul's 1866-9. He died after a fall down some stairs in 1869. Harness Prize founded in Cambridge in 1871 to commemorate him and to encourage the study of Shakespearean literature.[PBR II pp365]
