Peter Lovett Fraser was born in Richmond in 1773. Admitted sizar 1790 aged 17; scholar 1791; priest 1797; BA 1795; MA 1798; elected Fellow 1802. Vicar Bromley St Leonards1824; Chaplain to HRH Duke of Cambridge; Rector of Kegworth 1831; a fortnight later Bishop Kay appointed him Prebendary of Stow, Lindsey, Lincs. He held both until his death in 1852. He was a writer for the Times writing "flash articles which made a noise" [Crabb Robinson's Diary]. He wrote prolifically and left his large collection of books, chronicles, histories and memoirs as well as a bust of himself to the Library.

Inscription on reverse records that the picture belonged to Joseph Shaw, Senior fellow and then to James Cartmell, Master, who in a note dated 24th Nov 1859 made it 'an heirloom to successive Masters of Christ's'. Was in picture store rack10 moved to Room 4.13 in 2018. Lent Library April 2019 for high definition photography for book on "The Times" to be called "The Thunderer".
