Handwritten letter dated 5th September 1809, sent from Reverend Stewart of Dingwall to Reverend Dickenson. Within the letter:
- Apologising for the late answer to June letter and expressing pleasure that his mother is recovering health and spirits.
- Salutations to Reverend Mr. Mayor.
- Pleased to understand that booksellers will produce a new edition of Gillies’s Historical Collections of Stories of God’s Grace, and concerns about what to include and exclude. Suggests some possible additions to be made.
- Information about his sister in Glasgow.
- Gratitude for Mr Dickenson’s information about the latter’s friends and going on to mention some of his in Scotland:
Reverend Charles Calder, now Mr Stewart’s father-in-law, described as an "elegant scholar of refined taste” who is “spiritually minded" and able to sympathise with the sufferings of others. Mrs Calder “an ornament to his station”. Both are in declining health.
Their only son, a graduate of Edinburgh University, is now working in India. Their eldest daughter is known to Mr Dickenson. Their younger daughter is now married to Reverend MacIntosh of Tain.
- His only local relative is “a zealous notary of Mammon”, apart from immediate family of 6 children, eldest boy is at Aberdeen University.
- Two families from the Parish of Moulin have moved to Dingwall.
- He promises to send a copy of Gaelic Grammar.
