Ets van het Piazza S. Pietro met de Sint-Pietersbasiliek in Rome. Caspar was illustrator bij Nederlandse waterbouwkundige Cornelis Meyer (circa 1630-1701). Cornelius heeft in opdracht van de Paus Innocentio XI meegedongen in de aanbesteding om ontwerpen en plannen te maken om de Tiber weer bevaarbaar te maken. Hij heeft de aanbesteding verloren en was bang dat anderen er met zijn plannen/ontwerpen vandoor zouden gaan. Daarom heeft hij zijn plannen uitgegeven in boekvorm (in drie delen): L'arte di restituire à Roma la tralasciata Navigatione del suo Tevere. Uitgegeven in Rome bij Lazzari Varese in 1685. Roma, Varese (tipografo), 1685 - Calcografie: Cornelis Meijer (autore e incisore), Gaspare (o Kaspar) Van Wittel (incisore), Balthasar Denner (incisore), Giovanni Battista Falda (incisore), Barend de Bailliu (incisore), Jacques Blondeau (incisore). Er zaten 6 dubbelpaginabrede prenten in waarvan dit er twee zijn van de hand van Caspar. Van dit stadsgezicht St-Pietersplein maakte Van Wittel ook een olieverf op doek waarvan de verblijfplaats niet bekend is. Datering ahv voorwoord uit 1678.
