Woodblock for Adrian Wiszniewski print 'Subliminal Thoughts'. On reverse is another image carved for a woodcut- a female with curly hair and a large hat with flowers. Linked to print '2008.881'. In an interview with Glasgow Print Studio on 14th July 2010, the artist looked at the reverse of the woodblock with the image of the woman and commented;“ is this not from Chez Nous? That may have been one I thought ‘No, I’ll just leave that’ and I redid it. I think that would have tied in. I wasn’t sure how to do woodcuts you see. I always thought woodcuts were wood engravings. And then woodblocks, that’s German, they’re all churned out and it’s all a bit mental. I didn’t like how the wood broke up [when working on a wood block] but one way of holding it together is to cover it with ink. And that sort of holds it, and then I can draw on it. [like with ‘Kunst’]. That’s right, that worked out well, I liked that. And the other one was ‘Subliminal Thoughts’ and that was black and I just drew into it with white chalk and rubbed it out until I got the right line and then I knew what to cut out, and that worked out fine too. Then it became a neon as well. It was interesting doing that.”
