The image shows 3 stems of gladioli with four flowering heads and several unopened flower heads. The image is printed in tones of pale green, purple, pink/red, red and pale grey.
This drawing was the final sketch for the publication 'Gladiola'. The artist became interested in the subtle aspects of the print. The graphite coloured line on the print was a match to a graphite pencil used in this watercolour drawing. The fineness of the line meant the flower heads had to be printed individually to avoid the screen breaking up and losing details as it was so delicate. The final printed publication was achieved by printing 20 separations.
