[Visual Description: Image of a man as a religious icon, holding a passport in front of a terracotta brick building]
Part of Glasgow Print Studio's 'Call and Response' series where iconic Glasgowegians were invited to come into the studio and create a publication working with our master printers.
For Sanjeev's print, he wanted to make a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Parduman Singh Kohli, who moved to Scotland from India in the 1960s and was affectionately described as an "adopted son of Glasgow" at his funeral.
Kohli reimagined his father as Saint Mungo (the patron saint of Glasgow) to celebrate immigrants and the dignity they bring to their adopted homes. The print features his father's face on Saint Mungo's body, holding a British Indian passport in front of a Glasgow tenement gable. At its center is the phrase "I Belong to Glasgow," written in both English and Punjabi (Gurmukhi script).
