An image of a stormy cloud scene, printed in a grey/black ink. This is one of Wiszniewski's early lithographs.
In an interview with Glasgow Print Studio on 21st June 2010, the artist explained; “at that time I was quite interested in, that English artist who did paintings of clouds and his sketch book was just copies of clouds, he's eighteenth century, Curiston or Curzon. Anyway, there is a colour called Payne’s Grey. I just thought, pain IS grey, so it’s the idea of trying to create an image of pain itself which released the title. The cloud formation is quite fraught, you know how you get clouds that are very foreboding? So why not do a piece called ‘Payne’s Grey’. It’s taking an idea and pushing it a wee bit”
“You could link it with the Eddycycle series. I did do some environmental pieces about that time as well. I was interested in acid rain and the environment and things like that. I did a piece called ‘The Balance of Nature’ at the Print Studio, a monotype. It was for an exhibition at Nigel Goodman Gallery of shaped monotypes.”
