Worsley's almanac
Beschrijving
Nautical almanac belonging to Captain Frank Worsley. Was used to navigate 'James Caird' during the 'Endurance' expedition in 1916 from Elephant Island to South Georgia. The almanac was given to Reginald James, expedition's physicist, while in Punta Arenas after the rescue of the 'Endurance' crew from Elephant Island. James was given the almanac as a token of the work Worsley and he had done during the plotting of the expedition's position as they floated on the ice floes in the Weddell Sea. Written inside the almanac "Nautical Almanac used by Captain Worsley in / navigating the James Caird from Elephant". The almanac does not have a cover and is pages bound together. Note attached is a handwritten note by Reginald James included with the almanac.
