Model of the steam trawler 'Viola' before she was renamed 'Dias'. The model was made by Alan Richardson, a maker local to Hull. Today this ship is beached outside the South Georgia Museum. Built near Hull, England in 1906, 'Viola' was used in the fishing industry. During the First World War, 'Viola' was requisitioned by the Admiralty and served as a naval trawler HMT 'Viola'. The ship was used to patroll the North Sea for U-boats and later as a minesweeper. After the war 'Viola' was sold to Norwegian fishing company and renamed 'Kapduen'. Later she was sold to a Norwegian whaling company and refitted as a whale catcher ship, working off the coast of Africa. In 1927, the ship was sold to Pesca and renamed 'Dias'. In Grytviken she was used as a sealing ship and left at her mooring when the station closed. She was refloated in 2003 and beached on shore where she sits today.
