Archival history
Collections of photographs from South Georgia in the early 1970s. Subjects include Grytviken and other South Georgia whaling stations, field work and landscapes. Some photographs have specific descriptions: [D.2025.17.1.22] shows the Hamburg Glacier and Moraine Fjord in April 1971. [D.2025.17.1.23] shows the Ross Glacier looking across Royal Bay from a position close to the 1882 German site early in 1972. [D.2025.17.1.24 and .25] shows the Bertrab Glacier in Gold Harbour in Feb/March 1972. [D.2025.17.1.26] shows the Herz Glacier in Iris Bay late in 1973. [D.2025.17.1.31; .32; .35; and .36] show Godthul in early 1971. [D.2025.17.1.33 and .34] show Ocean Harbour also in early 1971. [D.2025.17.1.53] shows Brian Summers in 1970.
The photographs were collected by Philip Stone, Geologist with the British Antarctic Survey 1970-75.
